Volume 3, Lesson 14
by C.I. Scofield

The Judgments

The expression "general judgment," which frequently occurs in religious literature, is not found in the Scriptures. More importantly, the idea conveyed by the expression "general judgment" is not found anywhere in the Scriptures. The Scriptures do speak of several judgments. These will be found to differ in four general respects: those who are the subjects of judgment, the time of judgment, the place of judgment, and the result of the judgment.

  1. Believers in Christ are judged
    1. The sins of believers have been judged
      1. Time: A.D. 30
      2. Place: the cross
      3. Result: Death for Christ, justification for the believer
    2. The ways of believers are judged
      1. Time: Anytime
      2. Place: Anywhere
      3. Result: Chastisement
    3. The works of believers are to be judged
      1. Time:
      2. Place
      3. Result
  2. Unbelievers to be judged
    1. Time:
    2. Place:
    3. Result:
